If you've ever thought about creating a 3D image or an animation from plain old 2D images, then today, you're in luck. Researchers have apparently taught computers to spot visual cues to differentiate horizontal and vertical surfaces in outdoor scenes, opening the door to transforming 2D images to 3D images.
Take a look at the video below to see what exactly we're talking about. Not only will we be able to generate 3D scenes from a single 2D image, the technology could also be used with gadgets and robots to better comprehend what their “eyes” see.
